Imagine a figure that has accomplished a number of achievements. If we are to ask you, what makes a person unique, what would you answer?

A character that has accomplished many of the achievements mention is Queen Victoria. Alexandrina Victoria was born May 24, 1819; she was the daughter of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn and Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfield.

Alexandrina Victoria was 18^th years old when she was crowned queen of the United Kingdom and Ireland in London’s Westminster Abbey (June 28, 1837). Her reign would last until her death in 1901, becoming the longest reigning monarch in British history. During her reign, Queen Victoria achieved a numbers of accomplishments. The impact Queen Victoria had in the British nation was so great that both the British and the Canadian have established a date to remember the Queen, the Queen that change the view of royalty forever.

During her ruled (1837–1901) Britain was going through many changes, these included the following areas: industrial, cultural, political, scientific and military. Even with all these changes around her, Queen Victoria has been considered an emotional, honest and straight-talking person.

Why Queen Victoria is Significant?

During her regime Queen Victoria achieve many of the accomplishments mention before. She was born into an influential and powerful noble family. Another demonstration of her motherhood is when Victoria’s eldest daughter married Prince Frederick William of Prussian, her departure from England to Germany, made the Queen feel sick at heart. Her patience and humanitarianism was demonstrated when she forgave many of the executioners. Her rebellious ideas were shown several times during her regime; however one of her most significant act is that at her young age, it was Queen Victoria whom proposes to Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.

As mention before, during Queen Victoria regime, Britain went through many changes. Queen Victoria contributed to the expansion and reformation of Britain. With the Queens help, England was led through the Golden Age or the British Empire.

The Great Exhibition of 1851

• Both the Queen and her husband, Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, organized the Great Exhibition. The Great Exhibition was a World Fair that exhibited technological advancements and inventions from all over the world. The Great Exhibition received worldwide recognitions and had a cultural impact; with the profits obtain from this fair, museum and concert halls were established. For example: Albert Hall, the Science Museum, the National History Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Political Reform

• During the Queen regime several political, social and economic reforms where establish. Thanks to these reforms Britain achieved prosperity. The political reformation allowed England to focus industry expansion and trade. During this time Britain incorporated Canada, Australia, India, and various locales in Africa and the South Pacific, to the British Empire.

International Relations

• As mention before Queen Victoria sons and daughters marry into several of the royal families. This allowed Britain to establish good relationships with Germany, Russia, Greece, Romania, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Belgium.

Queen Victoria accomplish many things during her regime, she has proven to be unique in a number of ways. She is considered a normal person with emotions and stress like all of ours. She fought to keep a proper image and to rule correctly the United Kingdom and Ireland; for all her efforts, today we remember her during Victoria Day.

Victoria Day Today

Currently Canada is the only country that commemorates Queen Victoria accomplishments and life. During the celebration several cities will hold parades; the most prominent city will be Victoria, British Columbia. In the city of New Westminster, is distinguished by the Hyack Anvil Battery Salute; a tradition they follow similar to a 22-gun-salute. During this event gunpowder is placed between two anvils, the top one upturned, and the charge is ignited, hurling the upper anvil into the air. Another celebration includes the use of fireworks to create shows, parks and outdoor restaurants and other open air activities will be available or open; as the summer social calendar has begun.
