Can you imagine what your life would be like without the support and help of our father? Many of us have had the opportunity to see how our father has gone through great lengths to be there for us, to see for our sake, give us an example, give guidance and create beautiful and memorable moments with family. This weekend we can all commemorate our parents, grandparents and other parental figures; that have given us support, given us guidance and above all LOVE! Sani Dental Group wants to take a few minutes to remind and invite all of our readers, to love and support that father figure who was always been there for you.
Father’s Day: Its Beginnings
The 20th century offer us many, but many special events; among these is the formation of several holidays that reminded us the importance of family, among them Father’s Day. Inspired by the movement Anna Jarvis did to establish Mother’s Day, Grace Golden Clayton attempted to have a similar celebration for fathers’. The first observance of a "Father's Day" was held on July 5, 1908, in Fairmont, West Virginia. An event that led to the creation of Father’s Day is the Monongah Mining Disaster, in this event 361 men were killed, out of these 250 of them were fathers; more than 1,000 children were left fatherless and grieving. In order to commemorate all the parents that were lost in that day, Clayton suggested to her pastor to hold a special talk in their honor.
Sadly, this first attempt did not have repercussions outside of Fairmont; but in 1910, Sonora Smart Dodd took the challenge and thanks to the strong bond that had develop between her and her father, Father’s Day was establish. After four decades of struggle, President Richard Nixon established a permanent national observance for Father’s Day to be celebrated on the third Sunday of June.
