Deep Cleaning, Scaling & Root Planing (per quadrant)

Deep cleaning, also known as scaling and root planing, is a specialized treatment designed to stop the progression of gum disease. Unlike a regular cleaning, it removes harmful plaque and tartar from below the gum line and smooths the tooth roots so the gums can heal and reattach. This procedure is highly effective for patients experiencing symptoms such as bleeding gums, inflammation, or deep periodontal pockets.

What happens during a deep dental cleaning?
During your appointment, your dentist will:

  • Apply a local anesthetic to keep you comfortable.

  • Remove plaque and tartar from above and below the gums (scaling).

  • Smooth the tooth roots to promote gum healing (root planing).

  • In some cases, prescribe or apply antibiotics to help control infection.

A deep cleaning typically takes 1–2 hours. Depending on your needs, it may be done in a single visit or divided into two sessions, treating half of the mouth at a time.

Benefits

  • Stops gum disease from progressing.

  • Reduces gum inflammation and bleeding.

  • Helps prevent tooth and bone loss.

  • Restores gum health and strengthens teeth.

  • Freshens breath and improves overall oral health.

Recovery Time
Most patients return to their normal routine the same day. Since it’s a non-surgical treatment, you won’t need stitches or incisions, and you’ll be able to eat and drink normally as soon as you feel comfortable.
