Thanks to major advances in CT and CBCT imaging technology, dental healthcare has experienced one of the most important innovations in oral surgery of the 21st century: guided surgery. This technique uses a 3D-printed surgical guide based on the patient’s jaw anatomy, allowing dental professionals to perform procedures that are less invasive, faster, and more predictable.
To begin the guided surgery process, the dentist typically takes a CT or cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan to obtain high-resolution images. Based on these images, a 3D model is created and used to fabricate a customized surgical guide that shows the exact points where the implants should be placed.
This surgical guide resembles a clear plastic retainer and is positioned inside the patient’s mouth, so the surgeon can precisely locate the implant sites. These guides can be supported on teeth, soft tissue/gums, or even on bone.

This method creates a virtual model of the patient’s mouth, resulting in a physical guide with pre-drilled holes that assist in placing the implants in the correct position. Once the implants are inserted, the surgical guide is removed.

Although computer guided surgery is most commonly used for single or multiple dental implants, it is also applied in other oral and maxillofacial guided surgery procedures. These include full-arch restorations such as All-on-4, All-on-6, and Zygomatic implants.

Around the U.S., a surgical guide for an All-on-4 procedure can cost up to $1,000 USD. However, at Sani Dental Group the cost is significantly lower, at around $100 USD.

Although guided surgery was originally intended for patients who had been missing teeth for a long time, it has now become a preferred technique due to its precision, reduced surgical time, and faster recovery.
At Sani Dental Group, this method is preferred because it allows more accurate and efficient implant placement. Below is a successful case involving the placement of two implants in the posterior area of a patient’s lower jaw.
